We are a Specialty Foods Market, Cheese Shop, Kitchen, Cafe, and Bakery all rolled into one happy, colorful little business right in the heart of Brookline’s historic Coolidge Corner.

If you’re thinking, “Wow, that’s a lot of things to be happening all at once,” well, you’re right. There’s a lot going on here! However, we keep all of the focus in everything we do aligned with the belief that people should, if they can and if we can help them, eat good food! Our retail shelves are filled with carefully made, artisanal, small-batch products from all over the world and right in our New England backyard. Our cut-to-order cheese department has hundreds of varieties of specialty, farmstead, and carefully farmed meats and cheeses. Our cafe brews George Howell coffee and espresso as well as MEM Tea, all while getting creative with flavors and service. From the kitchen our Executive Sous Chef and team are producing seasonal, simple, flavorful dishes that are casual, approachable, and memorable. Our bakery team lovingly bakes treats made with real, whole ingredients and is focused on unforgettable flavor. Our whole foundation is one built around access to and enjoyment of good food.

How We Began

When Allium founder Talia Glass and her husband moved to Brookline from their home in Michigan in the summer of 2014 they were excited to find themselves immersed in a diverse, creative, energetic and food-loving town. With plenty of restaurants and bars on every street, they figured they had found their foodie heaven. However, it quickly became apparent that while the local food scene was saturated with exquisite restaurants and bars—and headed up by some of the area’s most skilled and versatile chefs—there seemed to be a void when it came to the need for a comfortable, casual, and exciting place to eat and shop in the neighborhood. Talia quickly realized that the type of neighborhood grocer she was used to seeing in abundance in her hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan—the type of place that sold both local salad greens and rare imported olive oils and cheeses, while also serving the local crowd specialty coffee and pastries in the morning—was sorely lacking from the otherwise foodie-filled area. And thus, the seed of Allium Market was planted!

With her background in specialty food training from the world renowned Zingermans in Ann Arbor, and retail experiences that ranged from independent specialty markets to large corporate grocers, Talia realized that she had found her calling here in Brookline. In the late fall of 2015, with a nudge and the help of her brother, Ben, Talia quit her job in leadership with Whole Foods Market and has devoted every day since to making Allium Market a reality. She is excited to bring her passion for great food, beliefs in the importance of stellar customer service, and excitement about a shared food experience to the amazing community of Brookline!
